A group of conservative senators are warning the Trump administration against attempting to undo Obamacare.
The senators wrote a letter Thursday to HHS Secretary Tom Price and White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus urging them to resist attempts to reverse the Affordable Care Act.
“Obamacare was not meant to be repealed.
It was never intended to be canceled.
And we know the president and congressional Republicans are not interested in doing anything that could undermine this law and its success,” the letter reads.
It also highlights how Republicans have been “overwhelmingly supportive of the ACA.”
“The American people have entrusted us with their health care and we are obligated to do our part to ensure that the law is upheld,” the senators wrote.
The letter comes a day after the administration pushed back against criticism that the administration has made a mistake by not providing enough assurances to insurers that the Affordable Health Care Act is not going to be changed.
The administration said that it is now considering a new plan to “implement a robust health care marketplace that will ensure access to quality coverage, affordability and choice for consumers.”
The Trump administration also said that the Department of Health and Human Services will hold an event with “top health care experts” in a few days to discuss the state of the health care system.
